Columbus University ( Panama )

The Columbus University, is an institution of higher education, established on October 12, 1992. It is authorized by the Panamanian Ministry of Education. It is recognized as a private university, by the Panamanian State, through Executive Decree (in Spanish, Decreto Ejecutivo) No. 112, dated February 25, 1994 and published in the Official Gazette (in Spanish, Gaceta Official) No. 22-492 of March 11, 1994.

At present it comprises the following faculties:

  • Education Sciences and Linguistics
  • Marine Sciences and Technology
  • Natural Sciences and Architecture
  • Social Sciences and Information Technology
  • Law and Political Sciences

Columbus University is an unaccredited distance education institution that has been based at different times in Louisiana and Picayune, Mississippi.The institution initially operated in Louisiana under a provision of state law that exempted tax-exempt nonprofit entities from licensing requirements.

Columbus has been accredited by the World Association of Universities and Colleges (WAUC), although this body is not recognized by the United States Department of Education.Columbus University is on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's list of institutions whose degrees are illegal to use in Texas, because degrees from such institutions have been found to be "fraudulent or substandard".
